...was a strange experience! Easily the most crowded lanes I've ever ridden, some lanes we were filtering through large groups of walkers every 50 yards, loads of horses, cyclists and runners round every corner and rather than having to divert to a petrol station we passed at least 25! Some of the lanes double as access to posh houses so we passed plenty of very posh 4x4s and even a guy who was looking like he really wished he hadn't come to his mates in a Mazda MX5 - he wasn't stuck but it wasn't gripping well! So, this is not really an ideal area to ride at the w/e when it's the sunniest, warmest and driest day of the winter!
However, the lanes were a lovely mixture though, chalk, sand, mud, water, no nasty grass ruts, plenty of slightly tricky bits, a few slightly tricky climbs and quite a lot of really lovely rolling swervery. The lanes are in little areas, one after the other, then a longish road bit to the next group of lanes. Started in Bagshot, through Guildford and towards Dorking, then looping back more southerly, 100 miles all together. 90 min drive each way and generally well worth the effort!
