Glenns 1936 Fosseway ride 12th feb

Post by Chris Barrable »

Glenn announced this ride on the non inclusive WhatsApp group thinking we had already moved away from this forum, so apologies if you missed it.

A lovely slightly chilly day with just the 3 of us started at the Crown on the A46 for the few miles to Grittleton to start the Roman road. LOTS of cyclists, horse riders and dig walkers with a couple of runners too. I've never seen the Fosse Way so busy! Maybe because it's a Saturday instead of our more usual Sunday ride?

The stream crossing was avoided using rhe bridge due to the self preservation gene.
The incrorrect Restriced Byway sign on the Foosrway is still there and I will 're contact Gloucester council (who acknowledged it is an incorrect sign a year ago)
The Daneway was as gnarly as usual .
Fuel stop on A417 - a poor rich bloke on a BMW 1000 (Not GS) had been green laning with road tyres with his GS buddies with adventure tyres all the way from London. Needless to say he had dropped it a few times and was not happy. His "mates" had left him...

Later we saw a rare sight- a white range rover with a lady driver out walking her dog. I mean the dog was ahead and she was driving slowly behind it. As in taking the dog for a walk by car. Astonishing.

On returning along the Fosse we rescued a couple of riders one with a dead DRZ with my handy jump wire and peg-peg to slightly charge the battery. All to everyone's amazement including my own!

Then at the Grittleton end we were approached by an old cyclist who is TRF and will hopefully go to see Trev soon.
