2016 Germany road trip

Post by Chris Barrable »

Napolean once said; "Careful planning is the most important stage of a campaign, but the plan must be changeable".

And so it is, my best laid plans to take a 2 week 2500m ride through southern Germany following approximately the Castles Road.
If you want to see as many castles as possible in the least amount of time in Germany, take a ride on the Castle Road, one of Germany's Best Scenic Drives. This themed route is lined with 70 castles and palaces, enough for any castle lover. The Castle Road, called Burgenstraße in German, is over 1,200 km (745 miles) long. It starts in Mannheim and leads you all the way to Prague in the Czech Republic.
Myself, Glenn and Trev to be joined at Folkestone Eurotunnel terminal by two unkown random riders from Norfolk who havent been out of the country on bikes much. What could possibly go wrong?

Quite a lot it seems. I of all people had to back out at the 11th hour - literally 11pm last night! (due to personal circumsances)
Undaunted however our gregarious duet were keen to continue despite having a sketchy notion of the route and without map or GPS. So I took my marked map over to Glenn's at 8am this morning handing over the train tickets and map. Having explained my carefully prepared route by drawing on the map and highlighting a few of the optional excursions I was keeping up my sleeve for rainy or generally "off-bike" days.
Eg: Sinsheim tecknic museum http://sinsheim.technik-museum.de/en/ with both a Concorde and a Concordski, various Where Eagles Dares film locations, Hitlers Nest http://www.uncommon-travel-germany.com/ ... -nest.html, Europes highest motorcycle museum https://www.obergurgl.com/motorcycle-museum and Europes longest tobogan run http://www.hasenhorn-rodelbahn.de/

Then at 09:15 they set off. Glenn on his trusty touring Fireblade, Trevor on his newly aquited Hyperstrada -with a good old fashioned cable clutch!
Gute reise & gute fahrt.
